Hints from the Opening Cinematic

In our previous article we presented you with the walk-through of the opening movie for Final Fantasy XIV, but it also included a couple of interesting hints. First up is the more obvious one about a skillchain type system. In this, a spell caster imbues his ally’s arrow with the power of fire before the arrow is shot at a monster.

The Malboro goes for a final jumping attack, and the Hyuran quickly takes aim [with his bow]. The Lalafell conjures up what looks to be a Fire spell, but suddenly the red energy flies back around and into the nocked arrow of the Hyuran’s bow. The arrow is then released and flies forth into the mouth of the beast, engulfing it in flames.

This gives us a hint that people working together will be able to boost and combine their attacks through systems similar to the one described above.

The second hint comes from the the last sentence in the write-up.

The Miq’ote is thrilled at the prospect of adventure and says “Let’s give our Bard something to sing about.”

This makes us wonder if Bard will be a playable class in FFXIV. It could be inferred that the party just has a NPC Bard that follows them around and records their adventure. It could also be telling us that the party includes Bard that aids them in their journey. How do you interpret this?

These were the two most obvious hints from the second-hand write-up of the opening cinematic. There may be more that we’ve missed, but regardless, it is some new information.
